Estate
agents in Portugal are regulated and to operate legally
they must be trained and certificated by the
Instituto da Construcao e do
Imobiliario (INCI). It is very easy to
double check if the agent you are dealing with has the
right credentials by inspecting their AMI (Associacão de Mediadores Imobiliários)
licence number.
It is
very easy to check the credentials of an estate agent in
Portugal as all licensed agents are by law forced to
display their AMI numbers on all literature
including websites, promotional flyers, business cards
and advertisements.
However
don't be fooled into thinking any number is an AMI
number, you can check the validity of the number on
INCI's website -
Checking Out an AMI Number
- simply key in the number and press Pesquisar.
If the agent is
licensed and the company's insurance is valid then
details will be listed. If on the other hand the AMI
license number is not valid no results will appear and
you will want to avoid such 'agents' as they have proved
already they are not honest people to deal with.
