When it comes to taking a
golf holiday, Algarve
courses
offer value for money
and good playing facilities, but the problem is
that people are watching their money more,
especially in the midst of a recession.
The boom in popularity and
increase in interest in golf in the country led
to an abundance of courses cropping up the
length and breadth of Portugal. However, there
is a fine line between supply and demand and
there’s a concern that supply has now in fact
exceeded demand. When it comes to taking a
golf holiday, Algarve
courses
offer value for money
and good playing facilities, but the problem is
that people are watching their money more,
especially in the midst of a recession.
Chris Gooch, a
golf course sales expert at Strutt & Parker,
insists the issue is relevant right across
Europe.
Gooch said: "In the U.K. and
other parts of Europe, such as Ireland, Spain
and Portugal, there are too many courses for too
few golfers."
Tourist officials in Portugal
will be hoping that being selected as the host
venue for next November’s
International Golf Travel
Market, which helps to bring together
suppliers and buyers in golf from around the
world, will in turn have a positive knock-on
effect on the country’s golfing economy and
wider economy.
