Bombarral is situated in the region of Leiria in central Portugal, though is considered part of the Silver Coast. Bombarral is not just a town, but a district made up of five parishes - Bombarral, Carvalhal, Po, Rolica and Vale Covo.

Bombarral is bordered by the areas of Óbidos to the north, Caldas da Rainha to the northeast, Cadaval to the south east and Lourinha to the south west.
