| Unlike the
United Kingdom, car boot sales have yet to catch hold on in
Portugal, although there are one or two up and running
in the Algarve and nearer to Lisbon around the rest of
the country, these type of fairs are not common.
You may find however among Expat communities someone
organising their own fares, trading various sorts of bric-a-brac as well
as information and knowledge, that can be invaluable not only for
picking up a bargain, but as an introduction to a wider variety and
schedule of events.
Though those flea markets and car boot sales
which are established in Portugal do offer the potential antique dealer
and bargain finder with a new range of 'junk' to deliberate.
In most cases you will find an overwhelming array
of religious artefacts including statues, crucifixes and 'so called'
icons. However to the more 'expert' eye there are still bargains to be
had. Antique ceramic and metal door furniture, wrought iron bed frames
and a plethora of carved stone items as well as many wooden articles. |
