The
longest river to run it's course entirely in the
boundaries of
Portugal is the River Mondego (Rio
Mondego). The river rises in the Serra de
Estrela mountains (Portugal's highest mountain range) at
Gouveia.
The
Rio Mondego then runs
for 234 kilometres to the Atlantic Ocean at
Figueira da Foz.
The waters of the the
Rio Mondego only flow through the
central Portugal region,
passing through the districts of Guarda, Viseu and
Coimbra.
