The
ruins at
Vila Cardilio
were only excavated in 1963 after the town council of
Torres Novas
commissioned the archaeological dig. As well as
discovering the vividly coloured mosaics, archaeologists
uncovered a number of foundations and base columns which
formed a building of three, large rooms.
In
addition to this archaeologists found a treasure trove
of artefacts including coins, bronze ornaments, ceramic
jugs and a marble statue of Eros, all of which are on
public display at the municipal museum.
Entry to
the Roman ruins at
Vila Cardilio
is free and there is a visitor centre packed with
information on the discoveries. |
